Box Score BRISTOL, R.I.- The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of its southern road trip in Clermont, Fla., falling to Amherst College, 15-9, Tuesday afternoon.
A slow start hurt the Hawks who found themselves down 5-0 after the first quarter. The Lord Jeffs doubled their tally in the second quarter while junior goalkeeper Matt Pietroforte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) allowed just two RWU goals in the first 30 minutes.
RWU gained some scoring momentum in the second half, but could not overcome the early deficit. Eight differeing Hawks found the back of the net, including junior Dave Hurley (Hanover, Mass.) who led all Hawks with two goals and three points in the game. Junior Sean Benner (Narberth, Pa.) was the only other Hawk to tally multiple points, notching both a goal and an assist.
Senior goalkeeper Bobby Hensley (Simsbury, Conn.) totaled 17 saves in the loss which dropped RWU to 1-3 while Amherst improved to 4-0.
RWU's next contest is Saturday at 11 a.m. against Hamilton College.
